Trichome biology is a focus for labs offering summer internships in plant GenomicsPlant Genomics Researchers at Michigan State University collaborate on a summer training program for students enrolled in undergraduate studies in biology, chemistry, chemical engineering and computational sciences. The ten week program is designed to give students experience in the theory and practice of genomics and includes a wide variety of projects and participating laboratories. While the main emphasis is on gaining laboratory experience, the ten week program includes informal lectures from faculty and social activities.

Congratulations to 2011 participant Mike Veling for receiving a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. Mike wrote: "My work in the Plant Genomics program taught me how to predict transcription factor DNA binding motifs using large scale expression data. I used this new knowledge in my home lab to enable my professor to produce and test new theories. Without the Plant Genomics Program, I would have never been able to do any of this!"
